How Myofascial Release Helps in Private Sessions

Myofascial release (MFR) has been one of the best tools in my toolkit as a yoga teacher, especially when I work with people one-on-one.  It provides many benefits:

1). Self massage usually just feels good!  So, it can provide short-term symptomatic relief for students during our time together.

2).  MFR puts students in charge by allowing them to direct where to place the therapy balls and how much pressure to apply.  It helps them learn to trust their instincts and listen to what their bodies are telling them.

3).  MFR allows us to pinpoint certain muscles and can give me detailed information about what is happening in someone’s body.  Often, a student will come to me with something like right shoulder pain, and we will also notice something happening in their left hip through targeted use of the MFR balls.  The whole body is connected and some times targeting the symptomatic area is just one piece of the puzzle.

Working with traditional yoga poses is definitely part of my approach with students, but MFR gives me so much more information than I can just get with traditional poses.  It’s one of the many things that helps me work with people in one-on-one sessions to help them feel better in their bodies.

If you want to work together in private sessions, DM me and let’s talk!
