When did you start yoga and how did you find your way to yoga?
I started yoga in 2011. I took Hatha yoga at a studio in Irvine called Triad Yoga. I had a challenging teacher, who I look back on and appreciate now because he instilled in us proper form through every pose. It improved my overall strength, posture, and overall well-being.

How often do you practice?
I try to practice 2-4 times per week. I take two studio classes and I practice at home, a park or in my office with my online app The Yoga Collective.

What are your favorite and least favorite poses?
I love balancing poses because they are challenging. I feel they embody one of the things I love about yoga, we are always learning and growing in our own practice. Balancing poses, such as side plank or Warrior 3 take a great deal of strength, balance, focus, and coordination to achieve. This requires hard work, putting in the time, and using proper form.

My least favorite pose is Salabhasana or Locust Pose because I find it is uncomfortable on my pelvic bones.

What do you like about practicing with Cara?
After years of different yoga studios and teachers, Cara was a breath of fresh air. Her knowledge, experience, and unique approach to the practice of yoga are brilliant. She has taught me so much about my body and improving my form. She has been instrumental in accelerating my practice to new heights I never dreamed I would get to within the past 2 years. I have had to diligently put in the hard work and push myself, Cara of course is always there offering her support and motivation. She tailors her classes and workshops to fit all levels of students, which I love, so you never feel over/under challenged. Cara is delight to be around, she genuinely cares about her students, and makes learning fun. She has motivated me to continue to take my practice to new levels with inversion training. I am so blessed to have her as my guide.

What gifts has your yoga practice given you?
I consider my yoga practice “ME TIME”.  Time when I can just let go of the day, release all my thoughts, anxiety, worries, and heal. I find it both meditative and a great way to keep my body in shape. Yoga as helped me to build a great deal of muscle and strength in my body. It has also taught me to balance my mind and emotions. I have also found a more self-awareness and accepting of my body from practicing yoga.

What would you say to someone who has never practiced yoga before?
Explore different forms of yoga when you first start to see which one suits you. I went to several studios and tried out Hatha, Kundalini, Yin, Invengar, Vinyasa, and Restorative classes. Find one that suits you and a studio or place/environment you feel comfortable practicing. You may go through different phases in your life where different types of yoga will better suit your needs. Explore different paths, never give up, and always listen to your body.
