Meet Jessie! She is a regular student at my studio in Fullerton and I asked her about why she practices. I’m so inspired by her commitment to her practice and have loved watching her get strong and grow over the past six months! I hope you take a couple minutes to read what she has to say about her practice below! ❤️
When did you start yoga and how did you find your way to yoga?
I started yoga about 3 years ago. I had just started a new job as a special ed. teacher and I needed a way to de-stress and spend time working on myself. I fell in love with the peaceful, yet challenging aspect of yoga.
How often do you practice?
I go at least three times a week. I am also working on my home practice.
What are your favorite and least favorite poses?
I love the first down-dog of a class, where I can move and stretch and get a feel for my energy. I also like up-dog, forward fold, and I'm starting to appreciate chaturanga!
I don't like clasping my hands in bridge or doing back bends with my hands clasped behind my back. My least favorite is reverse warrior or reverse triangle.
What do you like about practicing with Cara?
I love how Cara challenges me, but is gentle at the same time. She somehow knows my limits, when to push and when to take it easy. She has encouraged me to take my practice further than I would have ever thought. She is also warm and inviting, and makes you feel at ease.
What gifts has your yoga practice given you?
I am definitely stronger and my posture has improved. I am also more aware of my body and careful about how I approach my practice. I have learned to listen to my body and feel more in-tune with myself.
What would you say to someone who has never practiced yoga before?
Try several different styles, classes, and teachers before giving up. There is a yoga trifecta for you!
Also, you dont have to be flexible to do yoga. But it will help you improve your flexibility :)
